Disability & Arts Transition Team

DATT Update

The DAT Team are excited to welcome everyone to 2012. With both the Adelaide Festival and the Adelaide Fringe swiftly approaching, we are happy to include a wrap up of some of the shows that explore Deaf and disabled themes or include Deaf and disabled performers. February sees DATT offer two opportunities for artists and arts workers to increase their knowledge and skills in developing funding and resourcing for their own projects. This will help any applicants to the upcoming Richard Llewellyn Arts and Disability Trust grant progran that is currently open for submissions.

As always, if you have any questions about DATT's activities and workshops, contact DATT on (08) 8231 0900 or email datt@cansa.net.au.

News

Conexus 12 Now Available

Conexus is a magazine by people who all live with a mental illness, but who do not wish to solely be defined by their mental illness.  Instead to be seen as creative, thinking, feeling citizens.  This edition has a loose theme around Spring and Summer – rebirth, renewal and reinvention.
Submissions are welcome for the next edition, which will have a theme that addresses opposites or extremes: happiness/sadness, war/peace, night/day etc.  Submissions could loosely address this theme, but it is not essential.

Audio Description captures the visual elements of a theatre piece; painting or environment that a blind or vision impaired person might otherwise miss, describing them in clear, vivid language.  Through a small radio receiver, the patron receives a spoken description of visual elements by a trained audio describer.

Never Did Me Any Harm

14-17 March, 7pm, Sat 17 Mar, 2pm
In a society where parents have less children, less time, more money and many more opinions on how to produce the perfect child, are we creating an environment that will ultimately lead to a future generation with more hang ups than perfections?  Or is this actually an ongoing and age-old dilemma?  Never Did Me Any Harm uses fluid movement, images and real-life interviews to deliver an emotional, humorous and insightful work that cannot fail to resonate with all who were once children.
