IGODAP

International Guild of Disabled Artists and Performers

I've been meaning to post a blog on IGODAP for such a long time now. Just seeing a nice comment from David Feingold on my Miro Man drawing has inspired me to say something about the drawing.

It is one of a myriad of self-portraits I've done over the last few years. This one in particular is inspired by my love of Miro and has become the drawing I've used on Facebook as well as several of my blogs on http://www.disabilityartsonline.org/Editors_blog

It is a very scorpionic image - a bit mysterious; a bit child-like; reaching for the heavens but bound to life in clumpy man-boots. I have the crescent moon resting on my head. Perhaps it's a symbol of hope that life always contains the possibilities for something new and invigorating. Energy is something I value - living with M.E. - and finding it often in short supply.

The tree is me the mental health survivor - having to have extra-sensory insight into what's going on in my head - to stay on top of my innate abilities to lapse into fear and despondency.
